The Station Master's House

Five Star Accommodation at the Station Master's House

The Station Master's House has a five-star rating for self-catering accommodation from the Scottish Tourist Board.

We purchased Sanquhar Station in a sorry state back in 2008 but we were only really able to get going on the renovation at the beginning of 2010.

We sourced reclaimed doors - wider than the modern norm - up in Paisley near Glasgow, we managed to replace the traditional stone flags in the waiting room with stone from Burnley in Lancashire and we're still finding railway treasures at specialist auctions to add to the character of the building.

We have tried to make the most of the building's railway heritage and connections with blue enamel signs on the internal doors, original carriage prints and framed local railway posters on the walls and useful memorabilia such as weighing scales and porters' trolleys around the house.

We're now delighted with the results - true to the building's heritage but with everything you'd expect from a modern and contemporary self-catering property.
